Five thoughts from Game 1 of Bruins/Sabres

* As has been the case all season long, the Bruins couldn’t score AGAIN tonight. Not that they didn’t try – they put 24 shots on net in the second period alone – but they simply weren’t good enough to beat All-World goaltender Ryan Miller. The only time they did was when he let a rebound pop off his pads and Mark Recchi ripped a beauty past him to tie the game. Other than that, it was all Miller and plenty of posts and crossbars. Taylor Hall can’t get here soon enough.

* Who was the monkey working the door in the Bruins’ penalty box? Thanks for letting Zdeno Chara out early, you moron. Just what I wanted to see – our “best defenseman” having to go back to the box because you don’t know your ass from your elbow. It reminded me of that scene from The Departed. “Who the hell are you?” “I’m the guy who does his job. You must be the other guy.”

* Tuukka Rask played pretty damn well if you ask me, especially in the third period when he kept it a one-goal game with a series of sprawling saves. Against any other goaltender it might have been good enough to pull out the win. Damn you, Ryan Miller.

* I put up with Steve Montador last season because he wore a Bruins jersey. But my God, is that guy annoying or what? “I’m going to act like a tough guy and mix it up with all my old teammates to make it look like I’m important.” No, you suck. Peter Chiarelli was out of his mind to bring you in from the Ducks last year. You wouldn’t have even been selected for the Ducks team coached by Gordon Bombay, so I have no idea how you’re in the NHL right now.

* The Bruins definitely miss Marc Savard. He might not pour in goals at a prolific rate, but he sees the ice so well and is definitely Boston’s top playmaker. That he’s sitting at home right now because of that clown Matt Cooke makes me sick to my stomach. At least Cooke got what was coming to him as evidenced by the video below. Thanks Evander Kane.

All in all it was an enteraining Game 1. I just hope the B’s can turn this thing around on Saturday.
