Darnell McDonald lifts Sox to victory! Wait, what?

Posted by bdowd625 on April 20, 2010

Sometimes you find the spark you need in the most unlikely of places. The Boston Red Sox did that tonight. Darnell McDonald, recently called up from Pawtucket because Mike Cameron passed another kidney stone/tore an abdominal muscle/came down with osteoperosis and was put on the DL. And what does McDonald do in his first two at-bats of the season? He rips a game-tying, two-run homer in the eighth inning and drives in the winning run with a wall-ball single in the bottom of the ninth. Welcome to Boston, big guy.

I don’t care how the Sox did it, I’m just glad they were able to pull out a win tonight. It was getting pretty damn ugly to watch. I can only take so many J.D. Drew strikeouts and Manny Delcarmen gopher balls before I have to change the channel.

I do like how the Red Sox stockpile decent depth at Pawtucket. When the Mets’ players get hurt, they’re forced to put non-contributors like Frank Catalanato and Alex Cora in the starting lineup. The Red Sox at least have kind of decent “break glass in case of emergency” players like Homer Bailey, McDonald, Reddick and others on the farm.
