Diego Maradona? I’ll pass.

Posted by bdowd625 on August 16, 2010

I’m about as green as one can be when it comes to the world of English Premier League soccer, but even I know that Diego Maradona would be an absolute disaster as manager of Aston Villa. Apparently Maradona is interested in the coaching vacancy, though, which is currently being filled by caretaker Kevin MacDonald. Former manager Martin O’Neill resigned just days before the start of the EPL season, but Villa’s players put the distraction behind them and pulled off a convincing 3-0 win over West Ham on Saturday.

Back to Maradona, who left his position as head coach of the Argentinian national team after a quarterfinal loss in the 2010 World Cup. The guy is a total slob, and I don’t know how anyone in or around the EPL would be able to root for him after the “Hand of God Goal” he scored against England in the 1986 World Cup. For those of you that don’t remember Maradona’s controversial goal, it’s posted below:

You’re supposed to use your feet, porkchop.

This blog has gone downhill since it injected soccer onto its pages. Even the blogroll is starting to make me nervous. Get your act together. This past week alone had the kick-off of the pats, crazy sox games and an even crazier finish to the pga championship and you want to write about some soccer team and it’s coach.

For those who don’t enjoy the content of this blog, I have one piece of advice to offer: write your own stuff. We here at Ramble On are trying to please the masses so that means branching out every now and then. How much more Red Sox nonsense can even be written at this point? And pardon me for not getting excited about Patriots training camp. Call me when the season actually starts, Mr. Gardiner.

What our fearless leader meant to say, Mr. Gardiner, was thank you for your input and for following our blog. We always appreciate feedback from our readers. That said, if you think we care at all about preseason football, you are sadly mistaken. I’d rather be locked in a room watching Gossip Girl on a 24-hour loop than wondering whether or not Brian Hoyer is a worthy No. 2 quarterback. At least Gossip Girl has Leighton Meester.

When i say “kick-off of the pats”, i’m talking more about the storylines going into the season such as Ty Warren electing to have season ending surgery and calling it a “business decision” with the potential for a lock-out next year. I as well am not a fan of preseason games, but it was your leader who suggested we go out and watch preseason game number one the other night, so i think i may just be confused on the direction this blog is headed in.

Keep up the good work boys, I do enjoy reading the articles daily.
